At Koyasan(Mount Koya), there are ten permanent parking lots available for free use. Depending on the day of use, four temporary parking lots may also be available. Since there is only one paid parking lot in the area, visitors generally use one of the free parking lots. This article will explain the parking options available at Koyasan.

There are ten permanent parking lots available at Koyasan, as well as four temporary parking lots that can be used on expected busy days. All of these parking lots are free of charge.

The availability of temporary parking lots is predetermined. Additionally, when inquiring with the officials at Koya Town Hall about the start times for these lots, it was informed that their availability depends on the crowd situation at the permanent parking lots and will be made available accordingly.

In addition to the free parking lots, there is one paid parking lot. The number of spaces available and the operating hours for this paid parking lot are as follows:

The Nakanohashi Parking Lot is a permanent parking facility located near the Nakanohashi bridge in Okunoin. It is a convenient parking lot for those visiting Okunoin.

It has a capacity of 186 vehicles, making it the second-largest parking facility in Koyasan.

National Route 371 parking lot

The National Route 371 Parking Lot is not actually a parking lot, but a road between the Ichinohashi and Nakanohashi bridges in Okunoin, where parking is allowed along the roadside. This becomes a convenient parking option for visiting Okunoin, especially when the Nakanobashi parking lot is full.

Parking spaces are demarcated along the roadside, so please park within these designated areas. Although cars are parked on both sides of the road, parking is only permitted on the left side (the side where Okunoin is located). The number of available parking spaces here is 51.

Kongobuji-mae parking lot

The Kongobuji-mae Parking Lot is a permanent parking facility located right in front of Kongobuji Temple. It is a convenient parking lot for those visiting Kongobuji Temple.

Although the parking lot is large, the central area is reserved for buses, leaving space for 39 regular passenger cars.

Kongobuji-mae 2nd parking lot

The Kongobuji-mae 2nd parking lot is another permanent parking facility near Kongobuji Temple. It is located down the road next to the Koyacho Tourism Information Center. It's about a 5 to 10-minute walk to Kongobuji Temple.

Kouyacho Town Hall parking lot

The Kouyacho Town Hall parking lot is a permanent facility utilizing the parking area of the Koyacho Town Hall. The parking lot is accessible by following the road on the left side of the town hall. It is convenient for those visiting attractions like the Tokugawa Family Mausoleum.

The Koyacho Town Hall parking lot can accommodate 46 vehicles on weekdays and 117 vehicles on holidays. Unlike other permanent parking lots that are available 24 hours, this one has limited operating hours from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, so please be aware of this.

Daimon south parking lot

The Daimon South Parking Lot is a permanent parking facility located about a 10-minute walk from Daimon.

Otasuke-Jizo parking lot

Koyasan University parking lot

The parking lot is relatively close to Danjogaran, making it convenient. It is available until 7:00 PM.

Ichinohashi parking lot (paid parking lot)

The Ichinohashi Parking Lot is located right in front of the Ichinohashi bridge in Okunoin. While conveniently located, unlike other parking lots, it is a paid parking facility.

The operating hours are from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and the fee for regular cars is 400 yen for the first hour, then 150 yen for every additional 30 minutes. It has a capacity of 8 vehicles. (Please note that this information about operating hours and fees may be outdated, so it is advised to confirm by contacting them at the time of your visit).

While convenient for those visiting Okunoin from Ichinohashi, please be aware of its paid nature, fixed operating hours, and limited availability.
