The vast farmland cultivates as many as 600,000 wasabi plants, using approximately 700,000 tons of spring water per day. Due to the wasabi's sensitivity to direct sunlight, the wasabi fields are covered with black shading nets from April to September.
Near the Daio Wasabi Farm flows the Tade River, which is fed by the melting snow from the Northern Alps. The crystal-clear river flow never gets boring, no matter how long you gaze at it. Additionally, the three waterwheel huts along the Tade River have become popular photography spots, and they were also used as filming locations for the movie "Dreams" directed by Akira Kurosawa and the NHK serial TV novel "Ohisama."
